Two Different Desserts
Does a human always think about what can lead him or her to the happiness of life? Humans should make a decision. Leave it here or go on and search. Probably, I don’t know what is waiting for me, on the other side of a street.
“What would I choose?” — every day we ask ourselves. Sometimes we come to the place where we want to be. But should we be there? Just when I started my education in the university, I have decided my profession for my whole life. I am lucky, I haven’t searched but straightly went to the goal. However, some people merely make a decision on their own because someone decided for them or because of an emotional trigger. And this thought comes later. Some people get confused and others try to overcome themselves and go straight to the best life. It is easier to give up than to continue making important decisions.
Deep inside we are still little kids who crave for the peace in the carefree life. Yet, emphasizing freedom doesn’t make us capitalized “p” who are able to build their own faith. Ursula Le Guin — American science fiction author and literary critics — told about freedom as “a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit”, and if you are able to handle it, then ‘the road goes upward towards the light; but the laden traveler may never reach the end of it.” We read books, watch films, talk about everything to define our own path, understand what we are waiting for, who we want to be in ten, twenty, thirty years later…
Alone with thought you are always free. You think, you imagine, you live in your own reality. Dreams that seem unenforceable — come true in mind. But let’s come back to the present, and you make a decision: follow your dreams or stay in your comfort zone. A search for the right answer leads us to the decision of inner problem and to mental freedom. We are afraid of change, coldness of unenforceable dreams but there is nothing impossible but something we can reach.
But, what is a dream? Dream is a freedom of own decision. When we were a child, we didn’t want to eat soup and we thought, growing up, there is only ice cream on the table. We had such type of freedom till we grow up and then we understood that sugar consumption has bad consequences. Dessert was our dream, our freedom. Now “dessert’’ is a happy family, successful career, travel and favorite hobbies, sometimes of course, it is a couple of caramel ice cream. Dreams show a desirable freedom, life that you come to, despite daily struggles and “a heavy load” of important decisions. It is always different and unique. Every human has the right for personal freedom, freedom of decision, self-expression but not everyone is ready to take it.
I can’t and I have no right to talk about that kind of freedom that person chooses. But I understand that freedom is something we can take for self and don’t take from another person. William Shakespeare had written once: “I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none.” And what is about my frame and borders? It was built in a way I don’t feel comfortable and cozy to be alone with myself and in the society. I will never have an angry conversation on politics or religion. Because it is a decision of everyone, I can’t say if it is right if it is the same with mine or wrong if it is different. It is different or it fits someone’s point of view, life principles.
Coming to the right decision is difficult but being aware of that, leads you to the place where happiness will wait for you — is your own “miracle of the world”.
