Greediness in Self-Acceptance
Self-acceptance is regarded to be an emotional standpoint of an individual. It is said to give a positive effect in terms of emotions and confidence towards oneself even if the slightest level of self-acceptance exists within a person. Self-acceptance is not all about accepting the fact on who you really are but its all about appreciating and accepting the attributes, positive or negative, body acceptance which is better defines us as a distinct person.
As of now we all do understand the fact that our very own self-acceptance is all about us and it has nothing to do with the people around us but do you think so?
I would personally say that our personality constantly evolves based on the day to day experience that we undergo within our society where we live in. Our experiences basically shape us on the way we react in our life. Thus, people around us do have an influence on us up to a certain extent. Greediness in self-acceptance might be one of them because we take this trait as a motivation to seek a better life.
Every word has two meaning to it and as quoted by writer Jyoti Haldkar, “Every word has two meanings, but I don’t understand why people always choose the wrong one?” Are we becoming more of a society influenced by presumptuous thoughts. If it is, this would be a major setback within our advancing technological society. The word greediness is not an exception to this misunderstanding. Greediness is an act of jealousy which is very harmful behaviour to be inherited as it will not only destroy ourselves but it will influence the people around us negatively as well. But that is not all to it because in the bright-side greediness can be regarded as a self-motivation. This can be the stepping stone for seeking better opportunities to make our life a better one. This personality of self-motivation towards a change in life is developed as antagonism for “Self-Acceptance”.
Greediness in self-acceptance is more than a stigma?
This is a story of a small girl on the hardships she faced since small and her greed for self-acceptance changed her life for the better.
This small girl lived in a village nearby the border of her country which has been under economic sanctions for the past few decades. Most of its citizens had no food to eat and they were lacking in nutrition, hence most of them suffered from malnourishment. That girl faced the same problem as well. The continuation of the problem had made her realize that it is not a problem to her anymore but its more to a part of their struggle to live. Moreover, it wasn’t her only struggle that she had to face but it was only one of it. This girl struggled a lot to survive especially during the winter times which was very rough. She survived her childhood by eating frozen black potatoes, salted radish which was regarded as a cheaper option to eating “kimchi”. She even ate wild plants and grasshoppers in the forest to survive when she had nothing to eat.
At a certain point of time when she became started to mature, she knew that she had to do something to end her pain that she had gone throughout her entire childhood. She couldn’t take the stress that she is facing mentally and physically every day and she was motivated by the stories of defectors on how their life changed for the better once they escaped the catastrophe they were living in. She wanted to feel at least for once the breath of freedom in her life so she did the necessary means although it costs her life which the rest of the people would fear of.
One day, she decided to escape to neighbouring country but it wasn’t an easy task. She didn’t stop there but she fought her way through to live by the very own self without being dependent on anyone. In fact, the pain that she has gone through in order to just live freely in a country with at least some law for humanity to at least a certain extent was all more than she asked for.
Can the act of this girl be regarded as greediness in self-acceptance?
I do agree that her motivation was the one and only thing that pushed her to take the risk that she wouldn’t have took if all she had was self-acceptance. She did the necessary means on what it takes to survive. The way of looking towards an issue and understanding it is very different. It all depends on our approach towards a certain issue and overgeneralization doesn’t help.
In conclusion, self-acceptance is a must for each and every person to live a better life with full of positiveness and confidence. Unfortunately, if the situation motivates you to take risks and move towards a better one, we should never categorize that as something greedy at any point of time because it might demotivate them and a sense of fear will be instilled in their mind.
The evolution of a progressive society will meet its ends times soon then…
