Back In Time!
О, Brazilian nights with affettuoso guitar melodies and flowing pas of dances!
Go! Back In Time!
Marcelo and Kethlen: When we organized this cultural night, our main aim was to show our Brazilian culture to Russians as well as to the foreign students. Not only did we entertain everyone, we also told a bit of our history.
This year, we decided to present the audience with a blast from the past starting from 1950, the golden years, to 2000, the beginning of this century. This was how we went ‘Back in Time.’ It was an interesting theme to work with because many of us, including our parents, have fond childhood memories from those decades. It made us reminisce those times. The nostalgia connected many Brazilians, which we clearly saw when all the Brazilians came alive during that night and proudly sang together.
We chose the most important moments of each decade, for example in the 60’s, the song ‘The Girl from Ipanema,’ was released. That song is still sung like an anthem, till this day. Additionally, in the 60’s, the reign of the Military Dictatorship occurred; it devastated millions of Brazilians, and its ramifications are still felt today. Our 50’s and 70’s were influenced tremendously by two Americans, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, respectively. They are shown as part of our culture due to their monumental impact on it. We introduced the 2000’s with old Carnival songs that created our childhoods. The Carnival is our most renowned and celebrated festival; it is the biggest festival in Brazil and it usually lasts for 5 days.
It was very touching to think back to these memories while dancing with the crowd as they sang their hearts out. The band ended the night with one of the most famous Brazilian songs of all times, Não quero dinheiro, uniting everyone, not just the Brazilians, one last time.
Nivea, Luiza and Bruna: Being part of Brazilian Night was a big pleasure and a great experience. In the beginning, we decide to participate to help the organizers of the event to compose the dance group but we realize that this was much more than just a night.
It was the start of great relationships among the students, a funny exercise and a way to enjoy the opportunity that the University provide for their students to exchange cultures.
The theme of our night was “Back in Time”. The spectacle demonstrated the history and movements that happened in Brazil from 1950 to 2000.
Each decade had a specific study and preparation shown by their videos and characterized presentations. Everything was planned and executed with attention and care from all the participants.
Besides being a grateful experience for the ones involved in the Night, it was a nostalgic way to the Brazilians audience remember their loved nation. And also a memorable time for the others spectators.
