Acceptance or Self-Acceptance
Acceptance or Self-Acceptance, it is the war between what we want and what we need. “Acceptance” is what we want, while “Self-Acceptance” is what we need.
Everyone strives for one single thing in life, happiness. In a world, where social media rules over everything, insecurity prevails. What we fail to accept is not what it seems like, and there being our failure to accept. Happiness lies in acceptance.
Now, let me rephrase my first line. What we all strive for is “acceptance”. “Will I be accepted into this university?” “Will I be accepted into this society?” are a few examples. Amongst all these questions and worries we usually forget how to be happy at the moment. Social media is a huge pressure on all of us. We observe those perfect pictures, well written poems, posts, captions, words and other stuff on Instagram and Facebook, making it the modern version of peer pressure. It has so much influence in our lives, that most of us have failed to realize that we don’t have to be like the other person, we don’t have to accomplish what the other person has, and do stuff that the other person did.
Coming from India, I have always heard stories of parents comparing their children with others. It is a practice which has been condemned by a lot of people. Fortunately it’s reducing, but thanks to social media it has evolved from parents comparing children, to children comparing among themselves! Of course most of us do this subconsciously, but we still do it. To put an end to this attitude would also mean we could put an end to our insecurities. We must realize that self-acceptance is more important than acceptance. If we aren’t going to accept ourselves, then we can’t expect others to accept us. We are all unique in our own ways, our flaws define us and it’s only right to accept ourselves and our flaws if we want to erase our insecurities.
Happiness comes when we begin to accept ourselves. What you accept, can’t be used against you. Accepting that fact makes us realize that we are unique. It’s time we all realize self-acceptance is more important than anything else.
To accept the fact that the topic ‘Self- Acceptance’ is what we need to understand, is the first successful step taken towards self-acceptance.
